Simpel mathematical expressions can usually be written ‘inline’ following the normal flow of a sentence. Whenever you use mathematics, make sure to write the mathematical symbols in italics (‘cursief’). More complex expressions should be formatted as an independent object in the text, preferably by using the equation editor. Such equations should be consecutively numered (roman numbering in brackets). In addition, you need to explain the mathematical symbols on first use. See the following example:
